Abscess Management

We take health care personally because true excellence goes beyond medicine and machines. It lives in the moments when quality of life improves, when pain eases, and when a wound finally closes. Those moments matter. They remind us why we care, why we persist, and why healing will always be a source of joy to us as well as out clients.

Gloved hand prepared for a clinical procedure

An abscess is a collection of pus within the tissues, usually presenting as a hot, swollen, painful lump. Once drained, the resulting cavity needs structured wound care to heal from the base upward and to reduce the risk of the abscess reforming.

What this service involves

  • Assessment of the abscess, surrounding cellulitis and systemic symptoms

  • Drawing ointment or drainage, or onward referral for surgical drainage

  • Wound swabbing and antibiotic guidance where infection has spread

  • Cavity packing and dressing regimes that prevent premature closure

  • Pain relief and clear aftercare instructions for home

  • Follow-up to confirm healing and investigate recurrent abscesses

Who it is for

Any client with a painful swelling that may be an abscess, a drained abscess needing ongoing packing, a wound that keeps discharging, or repeated abscesses in the same area.

What to expect

Most drained cavities close over two to four weeks depending on size. We reduce packing progressively as the cavity shrinks, and investigate underlying causes where abscesses recur.
