Wound Debridement

Debridement is the careful removal of dead, devitalised or contaminated tissue from a wound. Slough (a yellow pea soup that forms over a wound) and necrotic (dead) tissue hold moisture and bacteria, block new tissue formation and mask the true size of a wound, so removing them is often the single most effective step towards healing.
Bacteria can double every 20 minutes so it is imperative they are dealt with expertly and quickly.

Wound debridement (removal of devitalised tissue) undertaken by trained clinicians
Debridement using specialist dressings
Mechanical debridement with special monofilament pads for removing slough and hyperkeratosis (Thick and hard outer skin)
Pain management before, during and after the procedure
Immediate reassessment of wound size and depth once the base is clean
Who it is for
Patients with wounds covered in yellow slough or black necrotic tissue, wounds that have plateaued, or wounds where the true depth cannot be seen. Technique is always chosen to suit circulation, pain tolerance and general health.
What to expect
Debridement is often staged over several visits rather than completed in one. Many wounds show visible improvement within one or two weeks once the wound bed is clean and dressings can work effectively.
