Compression Therapy

We take health care personally because true excellence goes beyond medicine and machines. It lives in the moments when quality of life improves, when pain eases, and when a wound finally closes. Those moments matter. They remind us why we care, why we persist, and why healing will always be a source of joy to us as well as out clients.

Compression bandage prepared for treatment

Compression therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for venous leg ulcers and chronic leg swelling. Controlled external pressure supports the calf muscle pump, reduces venous pressure in the skin, moves fluid out of the tissues and creates the conditions in which a wound can close.

We would work closely with you to provide the most suitable and comfortable treatment possible.

We can work to heal your wound and we can refer you to one of Professor Whiteley's Clinics as he corrects the cause of the wound so it is unlikely to return.

What this service involves

  • Multi-layer and two-layer bandaging for active ulceration and heavy swelling

  • Compression hosiery and made-to-measure garments for maintenance and prevention

  • Wrap systems that patients and carers can adjust and apply themselves

  • Intermittent pneumatic compression for oedema and impaired venous return

  • Correct measurement, class selection and fitting to avoid pressure damage

  • Ongoing review as limb shape and swelling change

Who it is for

Clients with venous leg ulcers, chronic oedema, varicose veins, lymphoedema or a history of deep vein thrombosis, once arterial supply has been confirmed as adequate by Doppler assessment.

What to expect

Compression is usually reviewed weekly at first, with limb measurements recorded so reduction in swelling is visible. As the limb stabilises, most of our clients move on to hosiery or a wrap system for long-term control.
