Primary Lymphoedema Therapy

We take health care personally because true excellence goes beyond medicine and machines. It lives in the moments when quality of life improves, when pain eases, and when a wound finally closes. Those moments matter. They remind us why we care, why we persist, and why healing will always be a source of joy to us as well as out clients.

Legs elevated to help reduce swelling

Primary lymphoedema is swelling caused by a lymphatic system that has not developed normally, often first noticed as persistent swelling of the ankles, feet or lower legs. It is a long-term condition, but with the right regime swelling can be reduced substantially and the skin protected from breakdown and infection.

What this service involves

  • Diagnosis and limb volume measurement to establish a baseline

  • Manual lymphatic drainage and decongestive therapy techniques

  • Compression bandaging in the reduction phase, then fitted garments

  • Skin care to reduce the risk of cellulitis and fungal infection

  • Exercise, elevation and self-massage taught for daily home management

  • Long-term monitoring, with garment replacement as the limb changes

Who it is for

Patients with unexplained persistent swelling of one or both ankles or legs, swelling that does not fully resolve overnight, heaviness or tightness in the limb, or recurrent cellulitis.

What to expect

The intensive reduction phase usually runs over several weeks, followed by a maintenance regime you manage at home with regular reviews. Most patients see meaningful reduction in limb volume and improved comfort and mobility.
