Fungating Wounds
We take health care personally because true excellence goes beyond medicine and machines. It lives in the moments when quality of life improves, when pain eases, and when a wound finally closes. Those moments matter. They remind us why we care, why we persist, and why healing will always be a source of joy to us as well as out clients.

Fungating wounds arise when a tumour (cancer) infiltrates the skin, producing an ulcerating or nodular wound. Care focuses on comfort, dignity and control of symptoms such as odour, bleeding and exudate, working alongside oncology and palliative care teams rather than aiming for closure.
What this service involves
Symptom-led assessment covering odour, exudate, bleeding and pain
Dressings selected for comfort, discretion and reduced change frequency
Odour control using charcoal, antimicrobial and topical treatments
Management of bleeding risk and fragile tissue at the wound margin
Skin protection around high-exudate wounds
Coordination with oncology, palliative care and community nursing
Who it is for
Patients living with an ulcerating malignant wound, and their families and carers, whether treatment is active or focused on comfort.
What to expect
The aim is steady symptom control and confidence in the dressing regime. We review as often as needed, adapt dressings to changes in the wound, and prioritise what matters most to you day to day.
