Traumatic Wounds
We take health care personally because true excellence goes beyond medicine and machines. It lives in the moments when quality of life improves, when pain eases, and when a wound finally closes. Those moments matter. They remind us why we care, why we persist, and why healing will always be a source of joy to us as well as out clients.

Traumatic wounds include lacerations, skin tears, abrasions, degloving injuries and wounds following falls. Older or fragile skin, blood-thinning medication and delayed presentation can all complicate what initially looks like a simple injury.
What this service involves
Assessment for foreign bodies, tendon, nerve and deeper structure involvement and onward referral if required
Cleansing, irrigation and closure or approximation as appropriate
Skin tear management using flap preservation and atraumatic dressings
Infection risk review, with antibiotic guidance where needed
Dressing selection that protects fragile surrounding skin
Scar management and falls prevention advice where relevant
Who it is for
Clients with a recent cut, graze, skin tear or wound following a fall, and anyone whose traumatic wound is not healing, is becoming more painful, or shows signs of infection.
Also clients with a large bruise that is swelling under the skin (known as a haematoma) which can develop into a large deep wound.
What to expect
Uncomplicated wounds usually heal within two to three weeks. Fragile skin and wounds in older patients may take longer, so we review at intervals and adjust dressings to protect the surrounding skin.
